January Wrap Up

January Wrap Up

Hello Everyone and Happy Saturday!

Beware of minor spoilers ahead!

I had a really great reading month! I finished 7 books, 4 of which I physically read and 3 I listened to on audio. I also DNF’d 2 books which I’m happy about. I read a total of 2594 pages for the month, which I don’t have anything to compare too, so I’m curious how that will change over the coming months.

My star rating breakdown was four 4 star books and three 5 star books, which is pretty good! I’m not shocked by that breakdown since I read a lot of Brandon Sanderson this month.

I’ve listed the books in the order I read them. I included the star rating and a few of my thoughts on each. Reviews for each book will be up soon and I’ll update with links once they are ready!

Sunreach (Skyward 2.1)

by Brandon Sanderson :

☆☆☆☆☆

Woooow, this was my first read and this was an amazing place to start this year of reading. I loved the new information we got regarding the world, and I really enjoyed following a different perspective and how much I still cared, when I thought that I would struggle to connect to the characters. I loved reading from FM’s perspective. Definitely a tear jerker!

ReDawn (Skyward 2.2)

by Brandon Sanderson :

☆☆☆☆

There was a lot I liked about this novella, but it definitely took me longer to get used to the new perspective. I didn’t enjoy being in Alanik’s head until close to the end but it made sense that we were following them. I do wish there were some interludes that showed us how the other members of skyward flight were handling everything. Besides the minor complaints, that ending hurt a lot, so another tear jerker.

Cytonic (Skyward 3)

by Brandon Sanderson :

☆☆☆☆☆

The Brandon Sanderson saga continues, and once again I was left sobbing. I really liked the turn that this novel takes, I do miss the original flight crew and it doesn’t feel the same without them. I did wish that we got more of the original crew and what is going on with them. I absolutely loved the relationship between Spensa and Jorgen and how that is continuing to grow! They are so cute together and I want more of them together! I’m definitely concerned with how book 4 is going to wrap up.

Where the Drowned Girls Go (Wayward Children 7)

by Seanan McGuire :

☆☆☆☆

This is my second favourite from the 7 books in this series and I had a great time reading it! I really liked Cora’s perspective and her struggles with trying to forget the door she walked through rather than trying to find her door again like so many of the characters from this series. I liked that it was also covered how she is a curvy main character and the realities of that. Definitely related to the topics she covered.

Evershore (Skyward 3.1)

by Brandon Sanderson :

☆☆☆☆☆

I am so upset that I had no more Skyward to read till book 4. I loved this one and it was the best of the 3. Jorgen was my favourite perspective to follow especially after the events of ReDawn. I think Brandon Sanderson writes grief so well and I was definitely crying for the majority of it.

Fortuna Sworn (Fortuna Sworn 1)

by K.J. Sutton :

☆☆☆☆

SO GOOD! I was not expecting to like this one, let alone have so much fun with it! I was immediately drawn in, and I love that it has a mixture of real world with fantasy aspects. I am team Collith right now, I think he is such a sap for Fortuna and I am really excited to get to the next one!

Lore Olympus: Volume One

by Rachel Smythe:

☆☆☆☆

So CUTE! The art work is incredible while telling a compelling story. I want more of Persephone and Hades, their banter is adorable! I’m excited for Volume 2 that is coming out in July of this year!

My favourite book of the month has to go to Evershore. I really loved it and I related to the way grief was described. Brandon Sanderson writes mental struggles so well, and I alway relate to the characters in that way.

This was an amazing reading month and so far, I am only bringing Way of Kings into February so hopefully, I won’t have to carry it into March as well.

Let me know how your reading month went and what your favourite book was!
