5 Star Predictions

5 Star Predictions 2022

Hi Everyone, Happy Saturday!

Let’s chat 5 star predictions! Of course, every book I pick up and/or buy I hope will be a 5 star read, but I think that while a synopsis can be really intriguing and seem like something I would love, sometimes it doesn’t work. Sometimes the writing doesn’t work for me, or an aspect of the story isn’t developed enough, or hits some of my bookish pet peeves. I tried to pick 5 books that are a mix of anticipated reads and books I already have on my shelf that I hope I can look back on and be blessed that I do know my own reading tastes. I do have more then these 5 that are predictions, but I think I will introduce 5, and once I’ve read them then do another 5!

1) Jade City By Fonda Lee

I was initially intrigued by this story because of the magical element. I love a magic system that needs other elements to work rather then just having the main character be magical. I want consequences and I want to know that this character has to be able to get themselves out of situations using more than just the magical component. I think it adds stakes to any story and I like that I as the reader have to be aware if they have what they need on their person and if they don’t, where they need to go to get more. One of my favourite series, Mistborn, has this element and I loved how much I paid attention to little details because of it.

Another element is a merchant war is brewing in this story and I read Foundryside with the same element and enjoyed it. I love political and war based fantasy so this book sounds right up my ally!

*In Jade City, there are 2 families that control the island of Kekon, where individuals can use Jade to gain Superhuman abilities. When tension begins to rise between these two families, violence erupts and the outcome will shape the future of Kekon.

I am really excited to get to this one, and based on multiple elements, I think it will easily be a 5 star read!

2) The Bone Ships By R.J. Barker

I have been on the lookout for more stories that include dragons. For those of you that don’t know, I am borderline obsessed with Game of Thrones, How to Train Your Dragon and Eragon, and they all have a common theme of dragon riders. Now I don’t know if this story has any dragon riding, but I do now that it will contain mentions of a dragon and thats enough for me.

*For generations, the people of the Hundred Isles have constructed their ships from the bones of dragons. But the dragons disappeared while the war continued. In our current timeline, a dragon has been spotted and now the two sides on this war are trying to catch it.

This has a war between nations, and a hunt for a dragon so I think I am going to really enjoy this one!

3) The Hobbit By J.R.R Tolkien

It’s almost embarrassing that I haven’t read this book yet. I read The Lord of The Rings trilogy first and I took me 3 different attempts to read through the entire thing but once I finished it, I loved it! I’ve heard that this is easier to get through and I just want more hobbits. I have been tempted to start a re-read of the trilogy, so I may as well start with The Hobbit this time!

*In this story, you follow a hobbit named Bilbo as he is invited on an adventure.

I am hesitant about this one, but I’m hoping I’ll love it! The edition I have is illustrated and so I’m excited for that element as well.

4) Set on You By Amy Lea

I learned about this book from Ali Hazelwood’s instagram and I was immediately interested. I love that this one has an enemies to lovers because its one of my favourite romance tropes. I’m also really intrigued by the fact that it seems like a lot of this will take place in a gym, and i’m curious how that aspect will be handled. This is the authors debut, but as I learned last year, one of my favourite romances last year was from a debut author so I am not too concerned about that!

*We follow Crystal, who is a curvy fitness influencer and finds her place of positivity in the gym. At the gym, we meet Scott Ritchie, who has a habit of using her favourite squat rack resulting in multiple jabs as they each try to get the upper hand on the other. When a photo of the pair goes viral, they are now faced with the internets opinion, but will they be able to get passed their criticism?

This sounds like an amazing enemies to lovers and I am ready for its release which is on May 10th of this year!

5) Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson

This is 100% a 5 star read for me, as I’m already half way through this one. I didn’t know anything before I started read and I still can’t believe what I have been missing.

This contains a magical component and a heavy political system. Each book is over 1000 pages long but it is still fast paced! I love have a cast of characters to follow without feeling like we are following to many people. So far at around 50% of the book, we have been introduced to 7 characters but the majority of this one follows 1 focus character from the 7.

*In this story, we follow a cast of characters. We follow a surgeon turned a slave, an assassin that cries after he kills, a scholar turned thief, and a prince who is learning more of the past. A war is breaking out and one of these 4 will either redeem us or destroy everyone.

I am already obsessed with this book and I cannot stop reading. I have tried to pick up other books while I read this but I’m so in love with this that every other book I try to read is staying in its shadow.

Those are my 5, 5 star predictions. I would love to know some of yours, and if you have read any of these, what did you think?

*Synopsis’s are taken from Goodreads.
