2022 Reading Goals

Hello Everyone, Happy Saturday!

2022 has begun and like most, I am setting some reading goals. The goals I set myself have always been really loose, and easily achievable. I don’t like to put pressure on myself to read, and over the years I’ve tried to shift my focus from quantity reading to quality reading. While I still want to read a lot as I have a constant dread that I won’t be able to finish all the books I want to, I don’t want to force myself to read books that I don’t like.

So here are my goals for 2022:

Read 75 books in 2022
    • For the last few years I have set my reading goal as 52 books, and I have always hit that number around June/July of every year. I know I can hit 75, but my internal goal is always 100 books. Maybe this year I’ll only hit 52 books and thats okay too!
Read more books that are longer then 500 pages
    • This goal while seemingly small encourages me to pick up the longer books that are on my TBR with less fear of not completing my reading goal. I felt that I had to read the shorter books because I have to hit my goal, however, last year I also set this goal and I gave myself the space to take my time to read the longer books. This was definitely a win in my goals from last year!
DNF books
    • I am awful at DNFing books. I always hold out and hope that they will get better and they very rarely do. This is definitely going to be the hardest goal to keep up with but I’m going to do my best.
Try a TBR Game
    • I am a proud mood reader, but I always see how fun these TBR games are and I would love to try it out and see if I can enjoy books on a set TBR!
Continue my Book Buying Rules
    • In 2021, I set up book buying rules that would allow me to still purchase books while reducing my impulse buying. I’m allowed 2 books per month, 1 sequel and 1 anticipated release. If i’m buying from a series i’m not already in the middle of, I have to read a set amount of books before I can purchase the first book. Some months this really helps, and other months I will not follow it and purchase 12 books in one go (like July 2021, where I purchased the rest of the Wheel of Time books so they wouldn’t have those TV show “stickers” on the cover).
Try reading 1 book at a time
    • This is not a rule I’m going to be overly strict on, and usually I do only read 1 at a time. Hopefully this will stop me from being in the middle of 6 books and then getting bored with all of them at once.

Those are some of my reading goals for 2022, and I would love to know some of yours! Reading goals can be fun and its fascinating to see how different people view goal setting at the beginning of the year!
